Choose the right hardware
Our team has worked with a countless number of customers across all industries. We can help you make the best hardware selections for your specific needs.
RFID Tags
RFID tags allow your assets and employees to be read by RFID scanners. Each RFID tag will have a unique value encoded into it so that when it is read by a scanner, the software can tell you exactly what it belongs to.
Tag Selection is Critical
RFID tags can be found in a wide variety of sizes and constructs. From paper labels to ceramic tags, every type of tag has its own advantages and disadvantages.
-
How much room do I have on my asset?
-
What kind of material will I be applying the tag to?
-
Do I need metal mount RFID tags?
-
Do we need human readable on our tags?
-
What kind of range do we need for our tags?
-
Do our tags need to be able to survive extreme conditions such as high heat or solvents?

RFID Scanners
RFID scanners provide the reading mechanism to give visibility to the tags that are placed on your assets and employees. Choose the right type of scanner for your workflow.
Handheld RFID Scanners
Handheld RFID Scanners allow a user to interface with a software system while scanning RFID tags. The scanners provide the most flexibility with regard to user workflows. A user is going to be able to make on-the-fly decisions to accomplish their tasks.

Periodic Inventory
One of the most common tasks used with a handheld RFID scanner is periodic inventory. Handheld scanners are especially useful for this task:

-
Software shows exactly what is expected in each room.
-
User can walk around scanning to rapidly inventory all room assets
-
Gives user flexibility to handle edge cases such as assets showing up in wrong room, missing, etc.
RFID speeds up periodic inventory
Checkout Operations
Another ideal workflow for RFID handheld scanners is checkout and checkin.
-
Scan employee RFID badge to start checkout operation.
-
Scanner rapidly reads all assets that user needs to take custody of.
-
Rocket Tracked software monitors all checked out assets and enforces checkout duration thresholds.

Fixed RFID Readers
Fixed RFID Readers are mounted at a strategic location to automatically read RFID tags as they move by. These types of readers provide real-time data and offer some of the most comprehensive functionality
-
Automatically update asset and employee location histories
-
Security checkpoints
-
Loss prevention
-
Enforce restricted areas

Choosing the right fixed reader
When picking the RFID reader that is right for the project, several considerations need to be taken about the specs of the reader itself. In addition to this, the antennas that you select are just as important to ensure a successful project.
Reader considerations
-
Maximum power capabilities
-
Connectivity type - Does the reader support POE? Do you need to have a SIM card?
-
Do you need to have support for weatherproofing?
Antenna considerations

Every RFID antenna has different specs. You must carefully analyze the antenna specifications to ensure that they will meet your needs.
-
Gain - signal strength and range.
-
Polarization - Do you know how the tags will be oriented when read?
-
Beam Width - How wide of an area do you need to scan?

Cloud Friendly Configuration
Modern fixed RFID reader support protocols such as MQTT that allow any reader to connect to the cloud as long as they have a network connection.

RFID Printers
RFID printers allow you to rapidly print and encode RFID labels. These printers are primarily used when human readable information needs to be added to the RFID tag.
-
Customizable print templates
-
Enterprise scale printing
-
Automatically encode and register the RFID tag with the asset record
Printer Considerations
RFID printers come in a variety of different configurations designed for different work environments

-
Performance - Will the printer be able to keep up with your printing demands?
-
Reliability - Is this a brand that will last
-
Do you need multi-tag encoding support?
